Did You Know?: The small cocktail (baby) carrots you buy in plastic bags are made using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail carrots. Once the carrots are cut and sh...aped into cocktail carrots, they are dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to preserve them. This is the very same chlorine used in pools. Since they do not have their skin or natural protective covering, they give them a pretty hefty dose.
You will notice that once you keep these carrots in your refrigerator for a few days, a white coating will form on them. This is the chlorine resurfacing. Chlorine is a very well known carcinogen, which causes cancer.
Stick with carrots the way they grow in nature. They are a little bit more work to slice, but it’s worth it to avoid dosing yourself with chemicals.

Green Tea
Good News for Carb Lovers: If you're dying for a plate of pasta you can reduce its negative effects on your blood sugar by drinking a cup of green tea with it. A new study at Penn State found that an antioxidant in tea, epigallocatechin-3-g...allate, can tame the blood sugar spikes that come along with eating a starchy meal—the same spikes that lead to sugar cravings and plummeting energy. While you don't want to go high-carb all the time, this trick can keep your diet and health on track when you do indulge.
Asparagus
Did You Know?: Asparagus offers up tremendous cardiovascular benefits. This vegetable contains a compound called rutin that can help prevent deadly blood clots, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Moreover, asparagus is a good food source of folic acid, a nutrient that helps counter the bad effects of homocysteine, an amino acid in the blood linked to increased cardiovascular risk.
